Program Review: August

Sport takes centre stage with Dream Big and Elite Sports programs

During Term 2 the KGI team was out and about travelling across the state conducting the REAL Schools Program. We visited 13 schools and interacted with over 500 young people!

During Term 3 we delivered our REAL Schools Program delivery to 5 schools in our current focus area of Metro Melbourne. Just like Term 2, the engagement and enthusiasm that each young person brought was outstanding and proves that we certainly do have some deadly emerging leaders out in our communities.

We also hit the road over the last few weeks to visit the community and young people in Albury, Wodonga and Mildura. It was great to connect with our Dream Big participants in these areas and in particular have them join in with Sammy and Joel on a workout in the Aligned Leisure Centres.

Back in July we also hosted the second instalment of our Elite Sports Program. 16 participants from all over the region came in and spent the day down at the Richmond Football Club with the KGI team.

These young athletes were lucky enough to get a surprise visit from Shai Bolton and Marlion Pickett who spoke about their elite sporting backgrounds and what it takes to get to the next level. Inspired by these great insights from the boys, the participants headed on to the Richmond Institute gym for a strength and conditioning session with Mick.

Sweaty and strong, the participants wrapped up the day with a healthy lunch before heading back home. Within just a few hours our Elite Sports Participants learnt the importance of eating healthy and trying something different. They were sent home with some new workouts to try when hitting the gym by themselves. We look forward to seeing them all again in December for the third and final instalment of the 2022 Elite Sports Program.
