THE RIPPLE EFFECT

Impact

Since our beginnings we have developed and expanded the programs we offer to continue to meet the needs of Indigenous young people.

KGI has been the subject of multiple academic research projects and peer-reviewed academic papers.

The research has shown that our signature programs impact the lives of our participants in five key areas: health, leadership, community, culture and pathways.

10 YEARs and beyond

THE JOURNEY

2011
When KGI was first established, the Richmond Football Club had 2 Indigenous staff and 2 Indigenous players. We delivered our first Indigenous leadership program during NAIDOC week for 20 participants.
2021
10 years on, Richmond Football Club has become a safe place for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to work, play, study and thrive. By 2021 the Club had delivered programs to 2,500 Indigenous young people, had 7 Indigenous staff, 9 Indigenous players, 1 Indigenous coach and 30 Indigenous students.
TODAY
Today our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is guided by a growing number of Indigenous voices. We have an Indigenous Board Member, Director, Psychologist, Player Manager and Advisory Board. Our programs are championed by our Indigenous Player Ambassadors and we have expanded into digital programming to reach young people right across the nation.

STORIES

The demand for our programs continues to grow. Contributions to our work ensure we can continuing supporting the dreams of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people on their terms. Donations can be made via the Australian Sports Foundation.

Korin Gamadji Institute

We extend our deepest respect to First Peoples and Traditional Owners of the land, air and waterways where we live and work.

Korin Gamadji means ‘grow and emerge’ in Woiwurrung, the language of the Wurundjeri people. In 2011 these words were gifted to Richmond Football Club by Wurundjeri Elders, and the Korin Gamadji Institute was born.
