The Laguntas and Jim Stynes Program’s showed their class with an entertaining and skillful clash at the Swinburne Centre last Friday.

With players playing for a spot in the All Nations squad, the Indigenous All Stars Laguntas defeated the Multicultural Jim Stynes Academy by 17 points.

Now in its seventh year, the Laguntas program provides an alternate platform for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth into AFL talent pathways.


Traditionally the Indigenous program has been stronger than that of the Jim Stynes Academy but as head Laguntas Coach, Peter Mongta, said pre-game, “the gap is getting smaller.”

JSA led the inaccurate Laguntas for most of the game before four unanswered goals sealed a come from behind win for the home-side.
